Excursions & Experiences
Farmers' markets serve as an excellent opportunity to engage with local communities and experience regional culture during your travels. In Marrakech, I visited a quaint organic market that showcased a diverse range of products. A memorable moment was meeting one of the local farmers, which established a personal connection to the fruits and goods on display. I returned with exceptional olive oil, fragrant dried herbs, and hand-crafted soap, all produced by small local businesses.
Along with Agrigento, Segesta is one of the most fascinating ancient ruins in Sicily, known for its stunningly well-preserved Doric temple and scenic location. It was an ancient city founded by the Elymians, a pre-Greek people of Sicily, and it played a significant role in the island's turbulent history, often caught in the power struggles between Greeks and Carthaginians. There is so much history in Sicily-a must for any bucket list, even if you are not Sicilian.
Ysios Winery is a beautiful modern winery in Laguardia, Spain, in the Rioja Alavesa region. Designed by famous architect Santiago Calatrava, it features a wave-like roof and unique architecture that fits well with the vineyards and the Cantabrian Mountains. Ysios produces high-quality Tempranillo wines, a key grape of Rioja, and emphasizes small-batch, premium wines that combine tradition with modern methods. The view is breathtaking.
food & wine
Food travel lets you explore a country’s history and traditions through the heart of a chef, winemaker, farmer, or grandmother. Our experiences have included picking grapes and olives in Italy, making pasta in the Bologna hills, dining with winemakers, milking sheep and making ricotta in Sicily, baking bread and rolling couscous in Morocco, harvesting cacao in Bali, cooking with village elders in India, hunting for truffles near Bologna, and visiting a chili pepper farm in Tuscany.
I do a lot of research to discover the best bites such as Roman pizza with a perfect crust, a flavorful Porto sandwich with roast pork & sheep cheese, unforgettable barbeque ribs in Bali, a lobster dinner on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, a bowl of Sardinia’s Su Filindeu pasta, fresh pressed olive oil in Sicily, grilled fish in Northern Spain, and the perfect dosa in India. Even when we stop for a snack, it must be exceptional.
Our travelers have had the delightful opportunity to meet pasta experts, truffle hunters, seaweed gatherers, salt harvesters, talented chefs, passionate home cooks, fish smokers, bakers, cookbook writers, and talented artisan food and wine producers. Each encounter has enriched their experience and deepened their appreciation for culinary traditions.
Meals can include street tacos in CDMX, goat cheese quiche at a local market, traditional dishes in a Berber village home, lunch at an impossible to get into restaurant with 4-tables in Modena, a sandwich in the Ortigia farmers’ market, exquisite Michelin-starred meals, lunch at the home of an olive oil producer, and dinner with a passionate winemaker and her chef.
We absolutely loved riding camels in the beautiful region of Rajasthan. This experience included a delightful mid-way stop where we enjoyed the perfect gin and tonic. The ride was followed by an incredible Indian feast!
I always make it a point to add some spa time to the travel program, especially a foot reflexology treatment day one. This small indulgence provides a wonderful opportunity to rejuvenate especially after a long flight.
The beaches in Sardinia are truly as beautiful as they say they are. This particular beach (Cale Gonone) was only accessible by boat, which added an exclusive touch to the experience and made the visit even more memorable.

I love all the Raas properties in India, but my favorite is RAAS Devigarh. This amazing hotel is set in the beautiful Aravali Hills, just 45 minutes from Udaipur. The 18th-century palace is a beautifully restored heritage site that impresses every visitor. The food is exceptional and the chef outdoes himself daily! The property has been updated to be eco-friendly while maintaining the charm of traditional Rajputana architecture, making it a unique retreat. Don’t miss a walk to the nearby village of Delwara, where you will spot monkeys, wild boar, goats & cows in the street.
A trip to Ireland simply isn't complete without making a visit to the enchanting Gregan’s Castle. This exquisite luxury eco-friendly retreat is ideally situated in the captivating Burren region on the picturesque west coast of Ireland.
